Joshua Hill

Joshua Hill is a historian of modern China. He earned his PhD at Harvard University, held an appointment as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, Berkeley’s Center for Chinese Studies, and currently teaches in the Department of History at Ohio University. Dr. Hill’s recent book Voting as a Rite: A History of Elections in Modern China (2019) explores the ways in which 19th and 20th-century Chinese leaders and thinkers have conceptualized the meaning of elections and understood the purpose of voting.
